GRAPHIT was formed in Graz in 2025. The trio of Klaus Wohlgemuth (guitar), Martin Pfeiffer (drums), and Richie Herbst (synths) shares a rehearsal space at Sisi Top Studio, alongside bands like Hella Comet, Astro Black, RHY, and Tiger Family. They also play in other formations such as Fragments Of An Empire, MRM Trio, Mulm, and Bernhard Schnur Band, or pursue solo projects like Tare (Wohlgemuth), Shlomo Ehrlich (Pfeiffer), and Herbst.

The Kellerstudio was used for sessions, its personal ambiance sharpening the band’s sound. Within just a few months, their activities shifted to the Offbeat Ranch in Wörth/Gnas, the same space where the “Swallows Fly Backward” festival takes place. There, over a weekend, they held intense sessions, complemented by coffee in the orchard, interesting conversations, and observations, as insects buzzed loudly.

The band released its debut album, “686c70”, in the last half of June 2026 via Bureau Le Fou, a platform-independent Graz-based label that has also released albums by artists like Kauders, Bernhard Lang & Phillip Jeck, and Natascha Gangl & Judith Schwarz.

The album consists of 7 songs, was recorded at the Offbeat Ranch, Wörth/Gnas, engineered and mixed by Klaus Wohlgemuth, and mastered by Bernd Heinrauch. It is available digitally, with a limited physical cassette edition. The cassette is a band production and available directly from the band.

The cover photo, titled “Passau”, is by Rosa Margarethe Fürpaß-Netočný. The layout was designed by Sarah Rachinger, and the cassette cover was printed in the risoprint process at Risofort / Hamburg.

The track “rework by Zeynep Sarıkartal” (Tape only) features a rework by the Turkish experimental sound artist Zeynep Sarıkartal. The accompanying video, created in collaboration with Leszek Barszczewski (camera) and Catrin Manoli (performance), can be watched here:
